Aspen Extreme - Part Deux

Beautiful days and lots of hot cocoa breaks!

The view of the slopes from our condo.

Boundary line to Hanging Valley.

Yep, more sunshine!
Van and Chris in the Hanging Valley area....super fun little chute.

Soft snow all the way down.

We found some really fun and varied terrain...the mountain is enormous!

Lunch at Elk Camp Lodge, complete with an assortment of yummy desserts!

View of the Hanging Valley from our lunch spot.
Poor Chris missed two days of skiing due to being sick.

He made miraculous recovery just in time for Kenzo's race and the apres ski party at Lynn Britt Cabin - phew!

Lucky for us, they were giving away free sunglasses to ensure everyone stayed and enjoyed the party!
The scene was getting busy just as Kenzo and I left.
Oh my. Cut them off!

My mini me.

The plan was for a fancy Aspen evening up the gondola for Ullr Nights at Elk Camp Lodge.

Instead, we went bowling and had beers!

Wahoo!!
Although we think he's growing like a weed, he's got a bit to catch up to the Snowmastadon!
Kenzo asked if I was taking pictures on this day.

Me: "Yes. Why?"

Kenzo: "Because I want to remember everything about our vacation!"

Beautiful and delicious Peaches Cafe in Aspen.
Cool galleries.
On our way to the airport.

We left as the heat wave started. Note Eytan in a t-shirt.

Good bye, buddy!

Kenzo got poles from his instructor on the last day!

S T O K E D !

Quick layover in Denver...

Finally back in Reno, with Kenzo watching over our luggage.

What a great trip...it went by too quickly! We are so lucky to have amazing friends and to share memorable experiences together!

Aspen Extreme

We were up early and ready to leave for Aspen....except that we had a 7 hour delay in Reno!?

Sad start to the vacation, but at least we got food and drink vouchers at the airport.

Up early the next day to ski from our condo to ski school.

Unfortunately, we arrived too late to pick up Kenzo's ski gear the day before, so Eric had to carry him down the hill!

Got gear...ready for ski school!

Kids sorted, mommies get to play!

We took advantage of the free mountain tour, and Andrew showed us great tree runs and some hidden spots around the mountain.

This was a warming hut/memorial shrine for a man who had died on the mountain a few year ago.
Sherbet sisters!!
"No Straightlining"

That's because the runs are so ridiculously long here, you'd be exhausted making turns the whole way!!

Walking into town after a day on the slopes.

The buddies reunited!

Our morning routine of breakfast and "Paw Patrol."

Auntie Van and Kenzo.
My skier ready for another day of ski school.
Skiing home from another successful day!

Apres ski time at the condo's restaurant with Kenzo's friend from ski school, Dixon.

Kenzo and Eva sharing a little paella.

Well earned drinks after a day on the hill!
Powder morning....kids dropped off!
C'mon already, let's go!
Ski in, ski out, slope side condo = PRICELESS!

A day off from ski school, so we went next door to Buttermilk.

This mountain was perfect for the kids, with tons of beginner and low intermediate runs and the best tree trails ever!

Beautiful views of Aspen Highlands...
...and Pyramid Peak way back in the distance.

Waiting for the bus back to Snowmass.

And then, waiting for the bus to Aspen.  "Waiting" really was only 5 minutes at the most.

What a great transit system here...makes it so easy to get around quickly for FREE!

Keeping entertained on the ride.
No visit to a new town is complete without a stop at the fire station!

A picturesque town filled with shops, restaurants, art galleries, and good people watching opportunities!

A bear made entirely of nails!

Walking through town.
Dinner at Little Annie's.

Beautiful bluebird day at the top of Snowmass, elevation 12,510.

Despite the sunshine, it was cold and the snow stayed awesome!

Race day at Snowmass with Kenzo's group - so cool!
They had a race announcer and even someone who
sang the national anthem before the festivities started!

Is it called "apres ski" if we weren't quite done skiing?

Lynn Britt Cabin, right on the slopes.
Kenzo got "Snowy" on this trip. A mastodon mascot of the ski school.

In 2010, as the developers were digging to make a reservoir, an alpine ice age watering hole was discovered. Irony?

This was the largest-ever fossil excavation, uncovering more than 50 different animals! A huge discovery, just in the shadow of the ski resort, dating back 140,000 years.
